“Although summer is slowly coming to an end, we are still in a holiday mood and we invite everyone to see a unique exhibition about bees and honey. The exhibition is a continuation of the August health conference for the elderly, which was devoted to herbal medicine and apitherapy, i.e. treatment with honey bee products,” says Elżbieta Łacina, Member of the Management Board of the DOZ Dbam o Zdrowie Foundation.

The collection of exhibits includes instruments and tools used in everyday work in apiaries, such as bee smokers or brushes. You can see the structure of a hive or a beekeeper’s outfit. You can also examine honeycombs, beeswax and finished products that can be bought at apiaries. The exhibition is complemented by a collection of honeys from different parts of Poland, illustrated charts showing the history of honey hunting, hives, honey plants, types and healing properties of honeys and other honey bee products, such as bee pollen, beeswax, propolis, bee bread or royal jelly, as well as key facts and fun facts about the life of bees.

During the private view event before the opening of the exhibition, which was held on September 12th 2018, thanks to the courtesy of the owners of an apiary at Lipka near Łódź, the guests were given the opportunity to watch bees live and learn about the ins and outs of their work. As many as almost three thousand bees were gathered on a honeycomb in a small showpiece hive.

The private view event included a lecture entitled “Here the hard-working bees extract from my sweet-smelling flower honey that...”– Of a Bouquet of Genuine Gold, delivered by ethnographer Aldona Plucińska, PhD, from the Archaeological and Ethnographic Museum of Łódź.

The exhibition is open until October 5th 2018, Monday to Friday, from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm.

The Jan Muszyński Pharmacy Museum was established in 2008 on the initiative of Pelion. It is an example of the company’s commitment to cultivating traditions of the Polish pharmacy. The museum is located in an 1840 historic townhouse at Plac Wolności 2 in Łódź, where the history of pharmacy in Łódź began. In the Museum one can admire meticulously reconstructed interiors of pharmacies from the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. The collection of precious exhibits includes antique pharmacy furniture, vessels for storing medications and instruments for making various forms of drugs. The Museum has a large collection of dispensing balances and laboratory scales, cast iron and porcelain mortars, and a collection of pharmacopoeias. In addition to the permanent exhibition, the Museum organises temporary exhibitions devoted to the history of pharmacy, the pharmacist profession, and pharmacists who played a major role in the development of pharmacy.
