This time, the subject of discussion was broadly defined security, understood both as online security and security in everyday life.

The elderly had an opportunity to find out how not to fall victim to criminals who purport to be one’s grandchild asking for money, and how to avoid frauds and swindlers. The issue was discussed by police officers from the Prevention Division of the Municipal Police Department in Łódź.

Celina Maciejewska, Seniors Ombudsman of Łódź, explained how to use the Internet in an informed and secure manner so as not to fall prey to fraud.

In her speech, Aleksandra Kręcka from the Department of Senior Policy of the Łódź Municipal Office spoke about ‘Smart band-aid for seniors’, the latest project in which the Łódź Municipal Office is a partner. The smart band-aid will facilitate remote care of the elderly and the sick. It will monitor basic life parameters such as the heart rate. Additionally, the device will remind the user to take medication and will send an alarm if they should fall or if their life is at risk. 2,000 senior citizens of Łódź will join the pilot project as of September 2018.

The conference was also attended by Monika Kamieńska and Monika Mularska-Kucharek, the authors of the book entitled ‘Srebrne Tabu’ (the ‘Silver Taboo’), published this year. The ladies talked about their thoughts and observations concerning happiness, friendship and love in mature life.

‘Senior citizens are a social group that frequently falls victim to various types of crime or fraud. Thieves, crooks and swindlers can easily take advantage of the elderly people’s straightforwardness, honesty, kindness, and desire to interact with others. The purpose of our conference was to convince the elderly that in such situations they are not left alone and to show them how to safely cope with today's reality, what situations and people to avoid, what requires their special attention, and what things should give them a warning light. Awareness of the threats posed by today’s world and methods of dealing with difficult situations will make senior citizens feel more secure and therefore healthier, and this is what matters the most after all,’ said Elżbieta Łacina, Member of the Management Board of the DOZ Dbam o Zdrowie Foundation, the conference organiser.

Media partners of the “Safety Senior” conference were the TVi internet television, Głos Seniora, Cafesenior.pl, and Magazyn 60+.

Conferences and meetings for people aged 60+ are an element of how the DOZ Foundation pursues its mission of helping seniors. Each such event is devoted to a different health issue, key to maintaining good health and well-being by older people. To ensure true value for seniors, the contents of the meetings are developed by well-established experts and professionals, including physicians, dieticians, psychologists, counsellors, and physiotherapists. The events have been hosted every month since February 2018 by the Sukcesja Shopping Centre at Al. Politechniki 1, Łódź (level -1).

In addition to health conferences, the Foundation also invites senior citizens to musical recitals. The forthcoming event, “Musical Suprises” featuring by duet for guitar and accordion, will take place on July 27th 2018 at 5pm in the Sukcesja Shopping Centre.

The DOZ Dbam o Zdrowie Foundation was established in 2007 on the initiative of its founder, Pelion S.A. A year later, it was included in the list of public benefit organisations. The purpose of the Foundation is to help those in need, in particular by mitigating inequalities in access to healthcare and medication. The Foundation also engages in health, educational and charity activities. To date, its support has been received by the elderly, single mothers, families with many children, and persons suffering from chronic diseases. Since 2013, the DOZ Dbam o Zdrowie Foundation has been a member of the Polish Donors’ Forum association.
