The elderly tend to be resigned to the fact that loss of hearing is a natural process and often hide this condition from the people around them. As a result, they often withdraw from active life, avoid meeting other people and stay at home.

During the conference, Halina Kopa, a prosthetist with Centrum Diagnostyki Słuchu i Mowy Logo-Med (a hearing and speech diagnostics centre and a partner of the event), spoke about the importance of hearing and hearing care. Each participant received a leaflet with the most essential information on how to prevent hearing loss.

For the first time, the conference held by the DOZ Dbam o Zdrowie Foundation offered hearing checks. All attendees as well as other elderly people visiting the Sukcesja shopping centre on that day could have their hearing tested, free of charge, in a mobile hearing unit. This was a screening test during which the basic hearing parameters could be checked.

The conference participants also met with Piotr Janowski, a paramedic from the Provincial Medical Rescue Station in Łódź, who talked about how to prepare for a visit from an ambulance crew. He stressed that the key thing was to keep basic medical records ready at hand in order to make them easily available to paramedics. The meeting participants received special ‘Envelopes of Life’ together with the Information Card and stickers for the fridge. The cards should be placed on the fridge door, which should be marked with a special sticker.

Another guest speaker was Jacek Kusiński, a publisher of books about Łódź and an enthusiast for the city and its history. He spoke about one of the richest manufacturers in Łódź, Oskar Kon, the protagonist of ‘Recepta na miliony’ (‘The Prescription for a Fortune’), the latest book published by Jacek Kusiński.

Media partners of the “Healthy Hearing” conference were the TVi internet television, Głos Seniora, Cafesenior.pl, and Magazyn 60+.

Conferences and meetings for people aged 60+ are an element of how the DOZ Foundation pursues its mission of helping seniors. Each such event is devoted to a different health issue, key to maintaining good health and well-being by older people. To ensure true value for seniors, the contents of the meetings are developed by well-established experts and professionals, including physicians, dieticians, psychologists, counsellors, and physiotherapists. The events have been hosted every month since February 2018 by the Sukcesja Shopping Centre at Al. Politechniki 1, Łódź (level -1).

In addition to health conferences, the Foundation also invites senior citizens to musical recitals. The forthcoming event, ‘My Accordion’ featuring by Krzysztof Raczyński, will take place on June 27th 2018 at 5pm in the Sukcesja Shopping Centre.

The DOZ Dbam o Zdrowie Foundation was established in 2007 on the initiative of its founder, Pelion S.A. A year later, it was included in the list of public benefit organisations. The purpose of the Foundation is to help those in need, in particular by mitigating inequalities in access to healthcare and medication. The Foundation also engages in health, educational and charity activities. To date, its support has been received by the elderly, single mothers, families with many children, and persons suffering from chronic diseases. Since 2013, the DOZ Dbam o Zdrowie Foundation has been a member of the Polish Donors’ Forum association.
